Celebrating Dr Madhu Prashar's 26 years of Outstanding Service as Principal, Dev Samaj College for Women, Ferozepur ( 15th November, 2018 )


The students, faculty and staff of the Dev Samaj College for Women, Ferozepur celebrated the historic completion of the outstanding 26 years Services of Dr. Madhu Prashar as Principal, Dev Samaj College for Women, Ferozepur at the College Campus on 15th Nov 2018. On the occasion Critique Ferozepur Chapter, Philosophical Society: A Students Discussion Forum, Department of Philosophy thanked Dr. Madhu Prashar for her qualitative services, support and encouragement all through these years. Dr. Ambuj Sharma, Assistant Professor and Head of the Department expressed his gratitude to the Principal and shared his affection and remembrance of the memorable times spent with the Principal during the last Seventeen years. The staff of the College arranged a small function in which everybody shared their own journey with Dr. Madhu Prashar and wished her good health and success ahead.

Book Launch -Cum- Panel Discussion on the Book "Unraveling Gandhi's Alternative Modernity: A Philosophical Debate on Caste and Gender ( 3rd November, 2018)


Department of Philosophy, Dev Samaj College for Women, Ferozepur on 3rd November, 2018, organized a Book Launch -Cum- Panel Discussion on the Book “Unraveling Gandhi's Alternative Modernity: A Philosophical Debate on Caste and Gender” written by the College faculty of the Department of Philosophy, Dr. Ambuj Sharma. The book was launched by Er. Prateek Prashar, Dean College Development, Dev Samaj College for Women, Ferozepur along with the Chief Guest Professor Rajesh Kumar Sharma, Department of English, Punjabi University, Patiala, Lallan Singh Baghel, Department of Philosophy, Panjab University, Chandigarh, Dr Rajesh Kumar Jaiswal, Department of English, University School of Open Learning, Panjab University, Chandigarh, Mr Gutej Singh Koharwala, Department of Punjabi, R.S.D. College, Ferozepur in the presence of other invited guests, faculty and students of the College. The Book intends to explore the Gandhian understanding and vision on caste, gender and modernity with a view to envision an ideal society. It focuses on the way in which the basic problems of morality, politics and spiritual life are conceived in Gandhian philosophy from a philosophical and theoretical perspective, which in turn, is formed by the Gandhian exemplar of the ethical and cultural transformations of Indian state. This Book intends to contribute to the debate on the issues of caste, gender and modernity by examining the underlying metaphysical, ethical and axiological issues therein. Though a veritable literature has appeared as a rejoinder to Gandhian thought, yet the present exercise is a humble attempt to re-appropriate and re-look at Gandhian views on caste, gender and modernity in a distinctive way as the present topic is of serious philosophical nature that demands further exploration and critiquing. On the Occassion Professor Rajesh Kumar Sharma, lallan Singh Baghel and Rajesh Kumar Jaiswal reflected on the book. Many students of the college along college faculty and others participated at the event. Among others who participated were Dr. Ashwini Kalia, Opthomologist, Ferozepur, Shri Rakesh Sharma from Indian Railways, Ferozepur, Prof. Kuldeep Singh, Prof Azadwinder Singh, Prof. Kapil and Prof Gurtej Singh Koharwala from R.S.D College, Ferozepur.

Baatain Aman Ki/ Dialogue for Peaceful India ( 1st October, 2018 )


The Dev Samaj College for Women, Ferozepur welcomed the Women Activists Traveller Group “Baatain Aman Ki” (Talks for Peace), with a moto of women empowerment and peaceful India, at the College Campus on 1 October, 2018. Around twenty two women activists from different parts of the country, part of the group recieved a warm welcome by the College Principal Dr Madhu Prashar, faculty and students of the college. On the occassion a small cultural programme was organized by the students of the college reflecting different culural dances and songs of India. A One Act paly on the theme violence free society for women was performed by the students of the College. Few activists from the group shared their experiences, narratives and struggle with the participants. Dr. Kanwaljeet Kaur, the convener of the women traveller group extended her thanks to the college Principal, faculty and students for their warm welcome and engagement to build a better society. The Dev Samaj Coliege for Women which is a pioneer women education institution of the country felicitated the women activists who are strenghtening and supporting women voices for their empowerment. Dr. Madhu Prashar highlighted the need of educating girls for a better and prosperous India.

Rethinking Domestic Animals and Their Health: Zoonotic Diseases and Preventions ( 15th September, 2018)


Critique Ferozepur Chapter, Philosophical Society: A Students Discussion Forum, Department of Philosophy of the College organized an invited lecture followed by discussion on the theme “Rethinking Domestic Animals and Their Health: Zoonotic Diseases and Preventions” on 31.08.2018 at the College Campus. Dr. Gurvinder Singh, Veterinary Officer, Policlinic Ferozepur, Punjab delivered the lecture, as the Resource Person. Dr Gurvinder Singh, informed the participants about various zoonotic diseases particulary from cattles and pets to humans. He in detail spoke about Rabies and asked all the participants to get their pets vaccinated for the same. Dr. Gurvinder said that domestic animals such as cattles provides us with our basic necessities such as milk and it is our responsibility to keep them healty and take care of them as family members. On the occasion Dr. Madhu Prashar, Principal, Dev Samaj College for Women, along with Department Head, Dr. Ambuj Sharma and students of the Department, welcomed the resource person Many students raised important questions on the presentation by Dr. Gurvinder Singh.
